“Jack Clarke is in a really precarious position.” Paul Robinson gives his opinion on what youngster should do

Jack Clarke struggled on loan at Leeds United and QPR last season, and Tottenham decided to allow him to stay and train with their first team in this campaign instead.

He has been able to watch the likes of Gareth Bale and Harry Kane train, but that alone will not help his development, and Paul Robinson thinks that he will have to leave Tottenham for a loan stint next month if he is serious about developing as a player.

He told Football Insider that the winger is simply too good to just play Under23 football at the moment.

He might have been training with the club’s first team, but if he wants to become a first-team regular at Spurs in the future, then he needs to go out on loan and get first-team experience, else he’d end up on the fringes of the Tottenham squad.

“He’s made a couple of European squads but he is very rarely involved with the first team,” he told Football Insider.

“Jack Clarke is in a really precarious position. He is at the risk of being on the fringes of the Spurs squad and not playing any football. If he doesn’t want to go out on loan again you wonder what his mentality is.

“The Under-23s is not the place for Jack Clarke. Training everyday with the first team is fantastic for him and great for his education but he is too good to be playing football for the Under-23s.

“Look at Troy Parrott, at Clarke’s age you do not want to just come on for 10 minutes in a European game that has no relevance every now and again.

“He needs to play football if he wants Spurs to be his club long-term. He needs to go out on loan.”
