“It’s in my plans to go back to Brazil” – Tottenham forward states the desire for a return to São Paulo

Lucas Moura is under contract with Tottenham Hotspur until 2024, so he has a few more seasons left in north London. However, the 29-year-old is already preparing for his post-European playing career.

In an interview with ESPN, Moura stated that he would like to play for São Paulo FC, the club that gave him his first minutes as a professional footballer, where he spent two seasons before heading to Europe.

“It’s in my plans to go back to Brazil, back to São Paulo. I never hid it from anyone; I never hid the affection and love I feel for São Paulo. When I left São Paulo, I said I wanted to stay for ten years in Europe. Come rain, come shine, my goal, my plan is to stay ten years,” Moura said.

“I do have a plan to go back to São Paulo. I want to feel again what it’s like to play at Morumbi, wear that shirt, the club of my heart. But I still have wood to burn. I’m feeling very good physically.”

Nonetheless, Moura did state he plans to remain at Tottenham for a while but was pressed in the interview if he would ever consider pushing for a transfer to the Brazilian club before his contract with the Premier League side.

“I’m playing in a big league, in a big club. I have the goal of winning a title with Tottenham, which I haven’t achieved yet. I still have some goals to achieve here,” Moura said.

Since arriving at Tottenham in 2018 from Paris Saint-Germain, Moura has racked up 161 appearances for the English club. The forward has scored 32 goals while registering 19 assists, and he will likely be adding to this total before he departs over the next three years.
