‘It’s a problem’ – Concern as Cristian Romero news emerge

Tottenham Hotspur could be handed a selection blow ahead of the World Cup later this year.

According to reports (via the Express), defender Cristian Romero might not play the final club game ahead of the showpiece event in Qatar.

The Argentine squad has not been announced yet but the 23-year-old is undoubtedly the best defender at Lionel Scaroni’s disposal and therefore he is likely to make the cut.

Apparently, Argentina will request the clubs of the selected players to leave them out of the squad for the final game week before the World Cup. That means, Romero will not be able to play against Leeds United on the 12th of November.

Argentina’s request is perhaps an attempt to keep the players fresh ahead of a major tournament.

His absence will certainly come as a blow for Spurs as he is their best defender.

Without him, Conte will have to rely on the likes of Clement Lenglet, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez. While, a club hoping to win trophies should be able to deal with the situation, it is not ideal.

Conte is likely to be unhappy with the situation and it will be interesting to see if Spurs are willing to grant Argentina’s request when it is put forward.

Meanwhile, Spurs have started the season well and they are third in the Premier League table right now.
