“I think he would like to cash in on that one to be honest.” Spurs tipped to offload long-serving player

Erik Lamela is one of the oldest members of the current Tottenham team after joining the club from AS Roma in 2013.

He has been a faithful servant since he has been at the club and Jose Mourinho has also trusted him to deliver some fine performances for his team.

Lamela has, however, struggled for form and with injuries in some games this season, and he has missed most of November with an injury problem.

Pundit Kevin Phillips has now tipped Spurs to cash in on him in the next summer transfer window.

He claims that he expects the club to offload him just before he enters the final year of his current deal which expires in 2022.

The Argentinean, he states, can be a fantastic player in one game and then become a source of frustration in the next game.

He admitted that Lamela works hard, but if the Lilywhites are looking to free up space on their wage bill, Lamela will be sold.

He told Football Insider: “Personally, I think they will look to cash in on Lamela next year. As good as a player he is, he is frustrating.

“One week he can be fantastic and the next week he is totally different.

“He works his socks off but if Mourinho can free up some room on the wage bill to invest somewhere else I would imagine they would look to do that.

“It would not surprise me if Lamela was moved on in the summer, a year before his contract is due to expire. I think he would like to cash in on that one to be honest.”
