“’I don’t think … ” ex-Spurs man says the club is lacking this vital personality

Former Tottenham goalkeeper, Michel Vorm says the club is lacking a real leader at the moment.

Spurs have suffered from a dip in form for much of the last two seasons and things had seemed hopeless until the appointment of Antonio Conte..

The club has splashed the cash on signings for several problem spots, but the problems keep reoccurring.

Vorm was at Spurs until last year and knows first hand what the problems are behind the scenes.

The Dutchman says it has been up and down and puts it down to a lack of a real leader.

Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris are two of the best players in their positions in the Premier League and they are the leading figures in the Tottenham dressing room.

However, Vorm doesn’t think either of them has the leadership capabilities needed to turn around things around at the club.

‘The situation over the past few years has been very up and down,’ Vorm told BBC 5 Live as quoted by The Daily Mail.

‘I don’t think Tottenham have a real old school leader in the squad that will say, “Boys, we need to change this around”.’

History has shown that teams that dominate, both domestically and internationally, are usually led by inspirational leaders.

Manchester City had Vincent Kompany while Manchester United had Roy Keane.

Spurs need a top leader like those players and fans will hope Conte can groom one of the leading figures at the club to help influence players on the pitch.
