Hutton calls for Gil to start against Rennes after being impressed by his ability to unlock defences

One of the most exciting Premier League signings in the last transfer window was Bryan Gil.

Tottenham secured the signature of the Spaniard is a player-plus-cash deal that saw Erik Lamela move the other way to Sevilla.

Gil has already played for the senior Spanish national team, but he is a regular for the country’s youth teams and played in the last Olympic games.

He comes to Tottenham as a jewel that can be developed into a top creative player.

Spurs have missed the influence of a top-quality goal creator since Christian Eriksen was in top form for them.

However, in Gil, they have one of the stars of the future and if he reaches his potential, he could lead them to trophies.

Alan Hutton has been impressed by him and the former Tottenham man has called for his ex-club to start the Spaniard when they face Rennes in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

“I like him. When he signed, I obviously looked him up and he looks really tricky and really good on the ball,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s a player that can split open defences, and probably what they were crying out for the other day against Palace.

“I know the red card didn’t help, but when you look at Harry Kane’s performance – zero touches inside the box, no shots on target.

“The whole team had two shots, just one on target.

“The midfield, Winks, Skipp and Hojbjerg – it needed a bit more creativity.

“It would be nice to see him against Rennes and beyond because I think he could really unlock defences in the Premier League.”
