“He might have to move on” – Wales manager discusses the possibility of Spurs defender leaving in January

The January transfer window will allow Tottenham Hotspur the opportunity to bid farewell to players who might not have a long-term future with the north London club.

One of the players that could be on their way out is defender Joe Rodon, and Wales national team manager Robert Page believes that the 24-year-old has to depart for playing time.

“Joe is an unbelievable talent and rightly so got a move to a big Premier League club in Tottenham,” Page said, whose words were relayed by the Daily Mail.

“But now he understands he might have to move on and play games of football because we want our best players playing week in, week out.”

Wales finds itself in the playoff round if they hope to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, which is less than a year away. Page would like to have a Rondon that’s fit and playing regularly, not a player that’s seeing sporadic time out on the pitch ahead of their matchup against Austria.

When it comes to possible destinations for Rondon, Newcastle United is a reported possibility along with Brighton & Hove Albion FC. The Wales international has only made six appearances this season for Tottenham, with four of those coming in the UEFA Conference League.

Barring injury, it doesn’t seem as though Rodon will get much playing time, considering they’re not out of Europe and now in the latter stages of their domestic cup competitions.
