Harry Kane – ‘Spurs Can Win The Champions League’

Harry Kane believes that Tottenham Hotspur can emerge out of their miserable current form and win this season’s Champions League.

Spurs have only won four of 15 matches in all competitions to start the 2019-20 campaign, including a 5-0 home thrashing of Red Star Belgrade who they face tonight in the reverse fixture.

The result in Serbia could go a long way to deciding Tottenham’s fate in Group B, in which Bayern Munich are the runaway leaders and Red Star are only a point behind us in second place.

Four points from the opening three matches is not exactly a statement to Europe’s elite, but we were even slower out of the blocks last season and, somehow, ended up getting all the way to the final.

At the pre-Red Star press conference, Kane told reporters that he feels Spurs can go one better this season, if they can find some consistency.

“Obviously, the Champions League campaign last year was so good for us. We got further than a lot of people thought we would,” he is quoted by the Daily Star as saying.

“We’ve got to try to find a way of consistently winning games. We’re here to win trophies. If we can win one of the trophies we are still in, we will see that as a success.

“Can we still go all the way? I think so. You look at where we started in the group stage last year and where we got to, we proved a lot of people wrong. We’re in a better position now.

“If we win this game, we’d be in a great spot to qualify and then in the knock-out stage, as you saw last year, it can go anyone’s way so that’s the thing we’ve got to take.”

The prospect of us winning the Champions League is currently laughable when you look at how we fared against a genuine contender like Bayern.

But what is Kane supposed to say – ‘we’ve got no chance?’ That would only lead to more questions over his ambitions and future away from Spurs.

And if there is anyone who genuinely believes we can, Harry is the man.
