Fabrizio Romano’s Latest Spurs Transfer Tip Defies All Logic – opinion

There appears to be a problem amongst some Spurs fans, whereby they have yet to quite grasp that you don’t go back. Whatever the specific reasons are don’t really matter, the point is, there will always be a reason. The lunacy of loaning back Gareth Bale has passed lots of people by. A million pounds a month, the club unable to let fans in either the stadium or the bricks and mortar stores to buy merchandise, yet the boy isn’t fit enough to deliver a solid 90-minutes anyway. There were some fans so overwrought with emotion, that they wanted Pochettino back, only weeks into Mourinho’s reign, despite the Argentine having served up some truly unmemorable football – including none other than a truly humiliating Champions League final performance.

The latest former player to have somehow waved that red pen from Men In Black before a good few eyes in our support is Christian Eriksen. I bet his agent is working to find a solution! After a dismal end to his Tottenham career, spent in Half-hearted Mode for fear of injury, there followed an unsatisfactory spell at Inter, where the Dane appeared incapable of snapping out of his hibernation setting.

Eriksen, who was once imperious, has for some good time been well off the boil and if I ever have the misfortune to see him fail to beat the first man on a corner kick, I pray that the former Spurs man isn’t wearing a Tottenham shirt whilst he does so.

There are bigger issues, namely his style of play for a Mourinho side. I may be doing him a terrible disservice, but tracking back and defending as a team isn’t something I would readily associate with the player.

What Tottenham need is to scrap these convoluted pipe dreams to resurrect the elderly and the effeminate, and concentrate getting players like Lo Celso and Ndombele to a point whereby they can play for 90-minutes at least once a week.

A side with the 31-year-old Gareth Bale, the interminably mysterious Dele Alli and some doe-eyed 29-year-old (come next month) is not a side I’ve much if any interest in watching, thanks very much.

Did Mourinho attract this level of nonsense at his other sides, or are we deliberately making life difficult for ourselves? You do not go back.
