Fabrizio Romano reveals Tottenham is ready to pursue a striker in 2022

Tottenham Hotspur had their eyes on a striker to provide some support for Harry Kane. Various names surfaced that the north London-based club expressed interest in, whether it was Lautaro Martínez or Dušan Vlahović.

However, no move for a striker materialized, but it doesn’t mean that Tottenham isn’t ready to begin its search again. According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who stated on his Here We Go Podcast, the Premier League side eyes a striker for next summer.

Romano states that Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici decided to pull out of pursuing a striker due to the inflation of prices. For example, Chelsea FC paid a club-record €115 million (£97.5 million) for Romelu Lukaku.

“It’s important for Tottenham fans to understand that Paratici is always thinking long term… Pape Sarr is one for the future. Emerson [Royal], he is one for the future; they’re already convinced by him,” Romano said.

“They’re already looking at potential strikers for summer 2022. This summer, they had the chance to sign a striker as a backup for Harry Kane, but they were not convinced by some players, so they decided to save their money and invest next summer on the right player. This is Paratici’s style and mentality.”

It seems as though Tottenham didn’t want to pay any price they deemed outrageous. The English club will look to pounce early on any striker they have their eyes on and not wait for any club to inflate the striker market.
