‘Can imagine that he prefers Tottenham’ – Journalist thinks rival player could be open to Spurs move

Tottenham were linked with a move for the Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech earlier this week.

The 29-year-old Moroccan has had a tough time in the Premier League and he has not been able to showcase his full potential.

Ziyech is thought to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and he is keen on leaving before the window closes.

According to journalist Johan Derksen, the player could be open to joining Tottenham.

“I can imagine that he prefers Tottenham, because he wants to succeed in England,” he told Vandaag Inside (h/t Sportwitness).

“(Returning to Ajax is) a bit as a rejection. He would be received with applause here, that would be a warm welcome, but instinctively the boy has failed in England.”

It will be interesting to see if Antonio Conte decides to make a move for the playmaker in the remaining days of the window.

Ziyech was an outstanding servant for Ajax and he has been linked with a return to the Eredivisie as well.

The 29-year-old is undoubtedly a top-class talent but he has not been able to adjust to life in English football. If Conte can help him settle in, Spurs could have a quality player on their hands.

It is no secret that Spurs need someone like him and they were heavily linked with Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma earlier on in the summer.

Ziyech is an exceptional passer in the final third and his long-range passing will add a new dimension to the Spurs attack. The likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min will certainly thrive on the service from the former Ajax ace.
