“Bergwijn’s chances were a little bit more difficult” Pundit surprised Kane didn’t get abuse for missed chances

Steven Bergwijn was abused online after he missed a couple of chances in Tottenham’s game against Liverpool in midweek.

The Lilywhites went into the game looking to beat the Reds and move three points clear at the top of the league table.

They didn’t get much possession, but they were dangerous on the counter and they caught Liverpool out on several occasions.

Bergwijn was guilty of missing at least one good chance, but Harry Kane also missed a golden opportunity to put the game to bed.

But the England captain wasn’t abused online and Danny Mills pointed that out in a recent interview.

The pundit told Football Insider that the chances that Bergwijn missed were more difficult to score than the one that was missed by Kane, yet it was the Dutchman whom the abusers targeted.

He told Football Insider: “It’s incredible Bergwijn got a bit of stick on social media for the chances he’s missed and Harry Kane by his standards missed an absolute sitter!

“He’s six-yards out, unmarked and headed it down into the ground and got his timing completely wrong. Nobody mentions it because it’s Harry Kane and he’s been absolutely magnificent.

“Bergwijn’s chances were a little bit more difficult and he did everything right – he was two inches away, three inches away to putting them into the lead.

“He’s a player of quality, a player that we’ve seen play well. He’s a Mourinho player, he’s fit, he’s energetic and he’s got quality on the ball as well.”

Bergwijn has recently become one of Jose Mourinho’s trusted men and he will hope to get more chances despite those misses.
