39-cap international wants to leave Tottenham at all costs this summer

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is keen on joining Spanish outfit Villarreal on a permanent deal this summer.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo via Sportwitness, the 26-year-old Argentine midfielder is desperate to complete a permanent move away from the Premier League club, and Tottenham is reportedly open to selling the player as well.

The 39-cap Argentine international joined Villarreal on a loan deal halfway through last season, and he managed to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact with the Spanish outfit.

Lo Celso played 22 matches across all competitions for Villarreal since joining the club in January, and he managed to establish himself as a key player for Unai Emery.

The playmaker helped Villarreal finish in the top four of the Spanish league and also guided them to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

It is evident that the player is unwanted by Antonio Conte, and it would be ideal for all parties to agree on a permanent transfer this summer. It remains to be seen whether Villarreal is prepared to come forward with an offer in the coming weeks now.

Apparently, Spurs could demand a fee of around €25-30 million for the midfielder.

The Argentine playmaker seems well settled at the Spanish club and is also admired by the fan base. It is evident that he is enjoying his football again and joining Villarreal permanently would be ideal for him.

The midfielder joined Tottenham on loan back in the summer of 2019 and his move was made permanent in January 2020. Lo Celso signed a five-year contract with the London club, but he struggled to hold down a regular starting berth with them.

Prior to the loan move to Villarreal, he had played in just eight Premier League matches during the first half of the season.

Lo Celso needs to play regularly next season in order to cement his place in Argentina’s World Cup squad, and staying at Tottenham might not be beneficial to him.
