28-year-old Tottenham target not keen to extend his contract at his present club

Tottenham has been handed a boost in their bid to add Jannik Vestergaard to their squad this summer.

The Dane is a fine defender and he has been linked with a move away from Southampton this summer.

Tottenham is one of his serious admirers, but the Saints aren’t keen to let him go.

He will enter the last year of his current deal with the South Coast club this summer and they want to tie him down to a new one soon.

Hampshire Live reports that while the Saints remain keen on keeping hold of him and have made that clear, he isn’t that eager to remain.

After dropping down the pecking order before winning back his place in the starting lineup last season, he is now keeping his options open.

The report says he has decided to take his time before committing to a new contract.

This could be an invitation for Tottenham to sign him and they can get him cheaply if they move now before he commits his future to Southampton.

Vestergaard is currently with the Danish national team as they impress at Euro 2020.

He has played in all of Denmark’s games in the tournament and started in the last three.
