Source close to the club: Mourinho crosses £30M rated star from Levy’s shopping list

A source close to the club tells me that Jose Mourinho is finding his own path when it comes to transfer targets at Spurs which may well set him up to emerge from Spurs’ forthcoming dealings if not ahead, then certainly with greater dignity than his predecessor.

Much to the chagrin of the pro Poch/Jose detractors, the Portuguese did not spend weeks negotiating with Daniel Levy before joining us, only to suddenly discover that there was a token transfer budget. Indeed, for those that have paid close attention to Jose’s pressers, we’ve had a steady stream of “I need players” when faced with injuries and “we operate differently” when faced with budgetary controls. Mourinho fully understands the game.

Max Aarons was a mooted target, but Mourinho would be prepared to soldier on with Serge Aurier, certainly for another season. The direction Jose is taking is not one closed to developing players, but the priority is ready to go transfers that can aid immediate results.

The suggestion was also made to me that we might expect movement (be it loans or otherwise) in respect of Academy talent under Mourinho.
