Spurs still want Lille man despite signing Matt Doherty

Tottenham is still interested in Lille’s right-back, Mehmet Zeki Celik his former manager has told Ajansspor.

The 23-year-old emerged as a target for Spurs as they looked to replace the inconsistent Serge Aurier.

They have since signed Matt Doherty from Wolves, but with Aurier expected to leave the Tottenham Stadium, it appears that the Lilywhites might sign another full-back before this transfer window closes.

Celik joined Lille from İstanbulspor in 2018 as the French side looked to help develop him into a top talent.

He is one of the several fine youngsters currently plying their trade at the club and he has already played for them in over 50 games.

This summer, he began to attract the attention of Spurs and it seems that they are still looking for him.

His former manager at Istanbulspor, Yalcin Kosukavak, told Ajansspor that the full-back still has interest from Jose Mourinho’s side.

He said: “Mehmet Zeki Celik worked together in Istanbulspor. At that time, Lille transferred Mehmet Zeki under the authority of their sporting director Luiz Campos. Lille invested in Mehmet Zeki’s potential and was able to do so.

“When I spoke to Mehmet Zeki, he said sevilla and tottenham wanted him. For Mehmet Zeki, Lille has a bond fee. If this fee is paid, Mehmet Zeki can leave Lille.”
