Report: Tottenham is looking to beat out Manchester United for Villarreal star

Tottenham Hotspur will be in the market for a center-back to help improve the squad this summer. The north London club already has Cristian Romero and Eric Dier, but they’re looking to upgrade the spot occupied by Ben Davies.

Pau Torres is one player that’s been connected to Spurs since last year but opted to remain with Villarreal and play UEFA Champions League football.

The Daily Mail reports that Torres feels it is time to seek out a new challenge following The Yellow Submarine’s elimination from the competition in the semifinals against Liverpool.

According to the English media outlet, the Spanish club wants a fee closer to the £55-million release clause, but clubs keen on the 25-year-old would like to pay £45-million for Torres.

Tottenham thinks they can give the defender the perfect next step in his career, but they’re not the only Premier League club looking to land the Villarreal man this summer.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Torres is likely to depart, and Manchester United is interested in The Red Devils looking to start a new era with manager Erik ten Hag.
