Report: Talks remain between Porto, Spurs for Luis Diaz despite initial offer rejected

Tottenham Hotspur hopes to use the final days of the January transfer window to land a big fish to give manager Antonio Conte a sign that the north London club is ready to spend and meet the Italian tactician’s demands.

This week, Spurs made an offer to FC Porto for winger Luis Diaz, but the proposal made fell short of what the Portuguese club wants for the Colombia international. Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano says that discussions between the clubs remain despite the rejection.

Romano adds that Diaz dreams of playing in the Premier League, and Tottenham knows that personal terms won’t be an issue. As a result, the only issue standing in the way of securing a deal is meeting Porto’s price.

Port wants a sum close to the €80-million release clause they have on the player, but ESPN reports there is some confidence at Tottenham that a deal can be done below that amount.

Spurs had their initial bid of €45 million rejected, so it will take a significant increase to get a deal done.
