Ouch: A Worrying Detail About Poch’s PSG Contract Emerges

This week, former Spurs megastar manager Mauricio Pochettino finally landed himself and his coaching staff the dream job that they had all been holding out for. After over a year over being repetitively linked with numerous big sides, the Argentinian finally put pen to paper with one of France’s most well known sides, Paris St Germain.

Amid all the hurrahs and back slapping, one detail emerged via James Dutton’s piece for the Mail Online that puts a rather less than upbeat spin on things, PSG have only given Poch an 18-month deal.

Poch’s predecessor, Thomas Tuchel originally had a 2-year deal, which was extended by a further year, Unai Emery who was in the PSG hot-seat before that, was also on a 2-year contract. Clearly, Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi is a cautious man, and one not over brimming in confidence this time around.

Apparently there exists an option to extend this week’s deal by a further year, but obviously this would be within the gift of the club, not the coach.

So no pressure; if things go wrong after the first season, you’ll be out the door faster than one can say “bonnet de douche”, with a 6 month pay-off on your hip. If this is Poch’s dream job, I’d suggest he try consuming less cheese before bedtime!
