No surprise this bitter pundit is spouting rubbish ahead of West Ham match

Tottenham was brought back down to earth in the Europa Conference League yesterday after Vitesse Arnhem defeated a second-string team fielded by Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 1-0 loss ends their three-game winning run in all competitions, but former West Ham star, Frank McAvennie says Spurs never hit top form as we would believe.

He told Football Insider: “My message would be, don’t get carried away.

“That’s an awful Newcastle team, one of the worst I’ve seen. It’s a mystery how Kane didn’t score more.

“Yes, the tide has turned in the league and things are looking rosy again. But what happens when they come up against a proper side?

“Villa are not at it this season and Newcastle are awful. Don’t get me started on that team from Slovenia.

“They made hard work of that, truth be told. Beat West Ham, which won’t be easy, then maybe we can have that conversation.

“But what happens if West Ham win? The pressure on Nuno goes up again.”

The Boy Hotspur says

Spurs did beat a poor Newcastle United side but it is lazy to suggest that more goals should have been scored, it is just a lazy assumption not based on fact and some perspective is required but to expect that from McAvennie is an exercise in futility.

Maybe McAvennie is bitter that his beloved Hammers is below Tottenham, who are apparently woeful this season.

Tottenham went into a cauldron last Sunday, they went a goal down within minutes and the only reason that the Geordies ended up looking so bad is because Tottenham made them look bad.

He then goes on about Villa, the same Villa that beat both Manchester United and Everton this season and entered the game against us after that win over the Red Devils.

We all know Spurs need to improve but considering we have played three of the traditional top six already, while West Ham has played just the one and yet they are still behind us in the standings tells you that maybe McAvennie should concentrate on his own club before uttering nonsense about a bigger and better club.
