Tottenham Hotspur will be in the market for strengthening their midfield this summer to go with the building blocks of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
A recent report suggests that Spurs could be in on Eintracht Frankfurt’s Daichi Kamada. The Japan international has one more year left on his deal, so unless the German club can ink him to an extension, then they might consider selling.
Journalist Noel Whelan spoke with Football Insider, where he discussed the possibility of Kamada heading to north London this summer. The outlet asked Whelan whether the 25-year-old would fit into the Tottenham squad, and he stated that there’s no doubt in his mind.
“I like the way he plays the game. He’s very nimble and energetic, and he’s shown what he can do on the ball as well. We’ve seen what he’s capable of in the Europa League with Frankfurt. He’s a player who has had admirers all season in Germany and beyond,” Whelan said.
“He’s the right age, and he’s coming out of contract, so you can get him on the cheap. There’s a deal to be done there. He’s coming into the right years, and Tottenham need to beef up that squad if they’re going to go far in the Champions League. He seems to have a good attitude about him. It’s a bit of a no-brainer.”
Kamada played a role in Frankfurt winning the UEFA Europa League this past season and experienced a good season with the Bundesliga side. He appeared in 46 fixtures where he scored nine goals and recorded five assists. When it comes to the possible asking price, Transfermarkt puts his value at £20-million.
