In Defence Of Mourinho Again

There’s a pretty unique feeling that I get at full time after a game like that; knowing that on top of the descending gloom that failing to win brings, that come the morning, the Internet is going to be polluted with the opinions of people who don’t even bother to disguise their irrational contempt of our gaffer. People who are perfectly happy – indeed, believe it to be quite normal – to damn the coach that gave us the first magic of the first goal, yet was incapable of delivering a second.

There are people that genuinely see no conflict, no contradiction in accusing a manager who is a serial winner, who clearly hates losing, of being someone who lacks the killer instinct so much, that he would rather draw than risk making a mistake that might concede one point.

So what’s the problem at Spurs then, ya footballing genius? The problem is that Mourinho hasn’t had the transfer windows any coach would need in order to make the squad right. Pochettino was here four and a half years, several of which were great, several of which were poor. Bizarrely, there were very few voices in the fanbase calling it for what it was, during the poor years.

Ignore that, ignore being in a cup final for the first time in over a decade, and ignore Klopp only succeeding in his 4th year, ignore the fabulous first goal, and instead simply berate the absence of a second. Pull the shutters down in your mind and keep banging on about bus passing and how you really want to be entertained and how it wouldn’t be like this under Nagelsmann or some other flavour of the week coach that has yet to win any silverware.
