“Good for him to go out on loan” Hutton makes Sessegnon claim but is he right?

Former Tottenham defender, Alan Hutton has urged Ryan Sessegnon to leave Tottenham on loan in the January transfer window.

The left-winger is in danger of not fulfilling the huge potential he showed at Fulham, which prompted Tottenham to sign him.

Sessegnon is nowhere near the first team and he spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim where he was given valuable first-team minutes and he was impressive.

It now looks like he could be going out on yet another loan with Turkish publication Takvim reporting earlier this month that Fenerbahce wants to take him on loan.

Asked if he thought the Englishman would benefit from a move away, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it will be, if I’m totally honest.

“I think he’s a brilliant player. I played against him, I know what he’s all about. He’s still very young so he’ll still be learning.

“I think his one problem is I’m not so sure what his best position is. Is he a left-winger, a left-back? Is he more a midfielder or higher up?

“I think that’s the main problem that he has. I did think he would get more game time. There have been injuries there, there’s maybe a confidence problem.

“I would want to move out somewhere on loan. He can have a future at Tottenham but it’s a matter of going out and finding out about himself. Where is his best position?

“Playing for a club regularly to come back a better player and then really try and focus on getting into that Tottenham team. I think it would be good for him to go out on loan.”

The Boy Hotspur says

It is beyond frustrating that we sign these youngsters and for whatever reason, we do not use them or ship them out on loan and they generally do not come cheap.

What is the point of signing these young players if manager after manager cannot integrate them sooner into the team? Where was the due diligence or was there none, was it all software-based?

Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, even Arsenal are managing to have a steady stream of exciting young talent come through and be utilised, either through their respective academies or as acquisitions but Spurs appear to be rather far behind.

Maybe the thinking is that they will get another Harry Kane if they continue going down the loan route.

Spurs do not throw money at signings like some and surely we have to get it right a lot more often, we cannot afford to keep dropping £25m on players and then barely use them.
