Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton believes Jack Clarke is a fine player and that it’s a shame he’s not playing more at the moment.
The 20-year-old caught the eye as a real wonderkid at Leeds United earlier in his career, before being snapped up by Spurs at a young age.
Since then, however, Clarke has mostly had to be content with going out on loan, rather than playing regularly for the Tottenham first-team.
Hutton thinks that’s a shame, and that it seems to be affecting the youngster’s performances, as he’s not playing his natural game due to a lack of confidence.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said: “It’s a shame because I think he’s a very good player,” he told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He’s still young and at a big club so there’s a lot of pressure there.
“He has played in the Europa Conference League, but it hasn’t quite worked for him and I think he needs to be playing regularly to see the best from him.
“He’s a flying winger who likes to take people on and if you’re low on confidence you can shy away from doing that.
“He has to go somewhere and play football.”
Nuno Espirito Santo has a big decision to make here, as Clarke probably does need another loan spell to aid his development, though some fans might well argue that it’s also worth giving him a run in the first-team to try and lift the team from its current slump.
