Eriksen’s A Symptom Not The Cause

My thanks to Daytripper

The problem is entirely Pochettino’s fault – but is also one I think he can still fix. I am so tired of hearing everybody blast Eriksen. He is a symptom of the problem, not the cause.

For the first time since Mauricio shipped out Mousa Dembele (hmm, when did our struggles start again?).

Poch tried to play Christian Eriksen in his natural #10 role against Brighton Ten minutes into the match it was clear Tanguy Ndombele was not willing to make the needed runs to help get the ball out of our zone, so Poch had no choice but to pull Eriksen back (makes him have to defend which is wasting his skills, and leaves him too deep to influence the match).

It would have been great if he could have pulled Erik Lamela back instead, but the Argentine turns the ball over so much he cannot be trusted with the ball in the defensive third.

When Spurs were at their best, Dele, Kane and Eriksen played as a front 3 in a system similar to Liverpool where they constantly rotated and pulled defenders apart causing havoc.

Now because Pochettino has lost the plot, it is Son, Kane and Lamela (and/or Sissoko at times).

Both Son and Lamela are static, and they too also lose possession to frequently, which then starves Kane of service and lets teams routinely counter us.

This line-up is – in my opinion – our best option in the future, and may be the only solution to correct our woes:
