Alasdair Gold discusses whether Spurs will dive into the free transfer market this summer

During Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici’s time at Juventus, the Serie A club was known for diving into the free transfer and getting players that fit their squad without paying a fee.

With some quality players like Paulo Dybala without a contract when June expires, some supporters are asking Football.London’s Alasdair Gold whether Paratici will bring over some of those methods he had at Juventus to north London.

Gold states that the free transfer and loan markets are areas that Paratici plans to explore the most this coming summer to further improve the squad for next season. Also, Paratici wants to recruit players that will fit the Premier League, considering last summer’s moves haven’t really worked out.

“I think, with the current state of the game, Paratici will certainly be looking at free transfers and more loan-to-buy deals. He loves the latter in particular, as we’ve already seen at Spurs,” Gold said. “The key for Paratici now will be knowing what players suit the Premier League.”

“I should stress that I do think Spurs will look to spend some money, not just frees or loan deals, although it’s also worth pointing out that they’re going to have to shell out around £65m on making Romero and Kulusevski’s deals permanent.

It will be interesting to see if this plan to attack the summer transfer market is enough for manager Antonio Conte, who will want the club to spend money to make drastic improvements to the team to challenge for trophies.
