A bad season, crowned off with the sacking of another coach, has dented the resolve of some fans. Equally, the post-COVID-19 boom some had forecast on the high street has yet to happen. Pubs are still quiet and people packed into trains like sardines looks to be a thing of the past. There is even talk of new strains as viruses by their very nature mutate – and to some, the idea of travelling by public transport to then pack into an arena with 61, 999 others a little daunting.
A source close to the club tells me that season ticket sales for Spurs have dropped off at a concerning rate and the hierarchy at the club is looking for if not a quick fix, then certainly some class of fix to stem disengagement.
This won’t or at least is highly unlikely to result in empty seats when the next season begins, but it will ensure plenty of new faces as the office staff at Lilywhite House begin the process of combing through the waiting lists to see who might be willing to step up to the plate.
The cut-off date for renewals is 5 pm on Thursday 3 June, but I am advised that this could be potentially be extended.
The need to land the right manager has now become all-consuming.
