Interesting twist perhaps here from Football Insider, who claims to have contact with someone at Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment operation. The suggestion is that Emerson Royal is one casualty of this summer’s transfer window, which Antonio Conte would be willing to take.
Atlético Madrid is cited as the frontrunner in this aspect, which may (or may not) make sense, based upon the last right back we sold them turned out to be a genuine asset.
Indeed, whether one cares to acknowledge it or not; Spurs have sold off a good many players in recent years who haven’t worked under the ENIC brand of THFC but have gone on to thrive elsewhere.
For me, Emerson started poorly but clearly took instruction well enough and made a demonstrable improvement. If Spurs are to let him go, then the inbound player needs to be a ready-to-go, clear upgrade.
I’ve nothing against the suggested target, Djed Spence, other than the somewhat limited nature of his tangible achievements for Nottingham Forest. I’d prefer to keep Emerson, buy Spence and loan him back to Forest.
