If a week is said to be a long time in politics, then in football, a month must be a lifetime. After the fiasco away to Colchester United, where the League 2 side spat Spurs out of the League Cup, Mauricio Pochettino was very clearly quoted as saying:
In this afternoon’s pre Watford presser, the gaffer has done a 180 degree turn, the wisdom of which will unequivocally decide his fate at Tottenham.
He believes in his players. It’s his decision. They have the quality.
No you don’t. No it isn’t and no, they do not.
One cannot help but feel that Mauricio’s slipped a noose around his own throat here.
Perhaps it is his intention to go down with his ship, stiff upper lip. Professional to the end.
January transfer windows are notoriously awkward affairs, indeed it would probably be nuts to pin all his hopes on the next one to get him out of this mess.
That said, this squad has now become super stale. Like the stuff you find down the back of a fridge, that is so old that even the bacteria has given up the ghost.
