Back Me Or Lose Me

Mauricio Pochettino’s time at Spurs could either be coming to an unsavoury close, or be about to blast off into outer space.

Reading Poch’s latest quotes from Press Association Sport, it’s obvious that the gaffer is all too aware that the club cannot win anything by continuing to ‘wing it’.

“But if we want to win titles we need to operate in a different way. At the moment we operate in the same way as we operated five years ago when we arrived.

The different way Pochettino references, is in fact, the NORMAL way.

“Sometimes you need refresh, all the teams are trying to improve. You cannot keep the same squad for five years. It is going to be difficult to find the motivation, to find the way to work.”

The sometimes you need to refresh line is the understatement of the millennium.

Spurs were the only side in Europe’s top 5 leagues not to buy anyone, which made them unique – in a bad way.

The simplest analogy I can conjure is Tottenham is a man who only eats processed food, smokes, drinks and yet proudly tells people he’s never been ill a day in his life.

The odds of him being outlived by a vegan are teeny, however while he’s still wheezing ‘Look at me, I’m second in the league!’, it’s impossible to convince him his diet will be the end of him.

These quotes go beyond the ‘Be Brave’ cobblers, and effectively demand that Levy has a personality transplant.

The only sane conclusion is that Poch must backed in a meaningful manner, or he steps aside and lets someone with less ambition and less integrity take his place.
