‘Wretched’ – Journalist singles out Tottenham ace for awful performance vs K-League XI

Tottenham Hotspurs’ correspondent for The Atheltic Charlie Eccleshare has slammed Davinson Sanchez for his awful performance vs K-League XI.

Spurs won the game 6-3, in what was an extremely eventful club friendly filled with controversy and drama. However, despite the win, the Colombian international who played 70 minutes delivered a below-par performance.

Not only was the center-back involved in all three of the opposition’s goals but was also lucky not to be sent off. And the performance was dreadful enough for Charlie Eccleshare to share his annoyance on Twitter. He tweeted:

“Anamo scores FK to make it 4-3 after a ‘wretched’ Sanchez tackle gave it away. Sanchez wasn’t booked for it but should have been – on top of what looked like a yellow in 1st half. Add to that a possible pen giveaway, being out-jumped for 1st goal and deflecting 2nd past Lloris.”

Although the Colombian had a poor start to the pre-season campaign, he was a key player for Conte towards the end of the season after he was called upon to step up for the injured Christian Romero. His performances even earned him praise from the gaffer himself who said (via football.london):

“I want to say that Patron Sanchez, he played his last game in the starting XI maybe two-and-a-half months ago and he worked a lot, he worked very well and to see him tonight have this performance makes me and my staff very happy.”

“When you have these type of players like Sanchez and Joe Rodon, reliable players that whether they play or don’t play they stay and work very hard, the coach and the staff are very happy.”

However, with some reports suggesting Tottenham will be open to selling him this summer for the right price, the display against K-League may have come at the worst possible time for the 26-year-old.
