‘Would be a brilliant buy’ – Pundit reacts to Tottenham’s links with 26-yr-old

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of right-backs in recent months and the Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries is reportedly on their transfer wishlist.

Antonio Conte is looking to bring in an upgrade on the likes of Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty in the upcoming windows. Dumfries has been outstanding for Inter Milan and the Netherlands national team and he could prove to be a quality acquisition.

The 26-year-old has been quite impressive in the World Cup so far, and he has helped this country reach the quarter-finals of the competition. His performances in the World Cup will surely add a premium to his asking price and it remains to be seen whether Spurs are prepared to break the bank for his services.

Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has now reacted to the Dutchman’s links with Spurs.

Hutton believes that Dumfries would be a quality signing for Tottenham, and he could help the club get to the next level.

However, he has warned that the player is likely to cost a lot of money, and Daniel Levy will have to loosen his purse strings in order for the transfer to go through.

In the formation that they play he is an ideal player,” he told Football Insider.

At this moment in time they are quite weak in that position when you think of Emerson Royal, I do not think he ticks all the boxes. Doherty has been very up and down with injuries.

For someone like that to come in, with the experience that he has got, I think he would be a brilliant buy. That is what Tottenham are looking to get into the club, these superstars that are going to push them to the next level.

He is going to cost a lot of money there is no doubting that. When you see him for the national team you can see he fits into the style Conte wants to play.

So I think he would be an ideal player to come in, if Daniel Levy loosens the purse strings again.

Antonio Conte’s formation relies heavily on full-backs and Dumfries has been excellent as a wing-back for club and country.

He could slot into the right wing-back role and make the position his own. The Dutchman has shown that he is a reliable defender and he is equally effective going forward.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs can agree on a deal with Inter Milan in the upcoming windows now.
