Worth Twice As Much As Vertonghen? Levy May Have His Work Cut Out With This Latest Transfer

Numerous sources including Sun Online are running with the suggestion that Toby Alderweireld is finally on his way out of Tottenham, with Royal Antwerp being heavily tipped as the most ideal suitor.

Vertonghen toddled off to Ajax for a reported £12million or so, with everyone’s blessing. Toby is supposedly valued by Daniel Levy at some £25million, according to The Sun’s occasionally mischievous Paul Jiggins.

On more than one occasion during last season, it was asked in this place why Toby hadn’t featured under José Mourinho, yet this is the same player that also went missing from first-team selections under Mauricio Pochettino… At 32, this is a great opportunity for all of us to move on with our lives, surely? £25million doesn’t strike me as being even vaguely in the right neighbourhood for the Belgian, but who knows what the market might stand, eh?

What we do know, is that time has run out for Tottenham and this squad is in desperate need of a shake-up, if Nuno is to achieve anything/ stand a fighting chance.

So the supreme leader put in a 30-35 mil bid for 27 years old Milan Skriniar last season, values 22 year old Jules Kounde at less than 45 mil but wants 25 million for Toby who’s 32. Great. That’s just great. Why would anyone want to voluntarily do business with someone who treats high stakes 8 figure transactions as a pawn shop exchange?

This is not the first time that Levy has priced Alderweireld out of the market. When Poch wanted to shake up the squad, Levy priced Toby at circa £80 mill. Utd , then under Mourinho were said to be interested but baulked at the price. The rest is history. It was similar to Levy’s valuation of Eriksen of £150 mill, based on Liverpool’s sale of Coutinho. Eriksen finally left for €15 mill. The clear conclusion to this is that Levy overprices his own players whilst low balling other clubs when he is recruiting new blood. The net result being that we don’t shift the deadwood and never recruit the players the manager wants. Our beloved chairman who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. Welcome to Levyland.

I like Rodon but I had still hoped he was going to be the back up level and to be realistic I doubt we will be able to shift all 3 considering their wages/ fee we will expect 🤦🏻‍♂️ Anyway

As usual Levy is pricing our players out of the market. We need to shift several but I fear that once again his OTT asking prices will prevent sales, does he ever learn from previous mistakes? Our myopic chairman is a hindrance to the progress of the club. Why can’t he just leave footballing purchases and sales to Paratici? Bringing in a DOF is just a smokescreen for Levy to operate concealed behind. He can’t let go, he’s a control freak.

We already have Joe Rodon, get another young one and an experienced CB to go with them and shift the other 3 on.

The Vertonghen info is a bit jumbled.
As for Toby at a normal club it would seem a good time to move him on but as it stands we need 2 Dcs already and with this news us buying 3 goodens just doesn’t seem likely so pretty terrible timing and can’t see 25m either.
