Sky Sports would have us believe that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Japanese right back Hiroki Sakai.
Without being brisk about this, the chap is 29 years old.
What is more interesting iin this piece penned by Lyall Thomas, is the line, the club will listen to offers for both right-backs Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier.
Thomas has a healthy relationship with the press officer at Spurs and this is therefore likely to have legs.
Trippier’s move to Italy never seemed entirely believable, and fizzled out with some business about the Bury boy being too old.
Serge Aurier is genuine puzzler. Yes, there was a fair degree of nonsense shortly after he arrived, but otherwise he’s played some useful football, particularly linking up well with Moussa Sissoko. One can only presume the Frenchman isn’t behaving in training.
Sakai is at Monaco, and it’s not inconceivable that Aurier going the other way could be a construct for a deal.
Given Serge is 26, I’d stick with the devil we know, thanks very much.
