“Winning the race” – Tottenham braced for deadline day drama over midfielder after latest development

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is attracting late interest from West Ham as the summer transfer window nears its end.

Lo Celso, who has entered the final year of his contract at Spurs, is being linked with a potential move away from North London. Several clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

According to an exclusive from Daily Express journalist Charlie Gordon, West Ham have expressed interest in the Argentine’s availability, though Real Betis currently seems to be the frontrunner in securing his signature.

Taking to X, he shared the following update:

“Told West Ham have asked about Giovani Lo Celso this week but Real Betis are winning the race. Likely to run into tomorrow. Aston Villa still interested in case move to Spain falls apart but Betis now going all out to get it done.”

During his time at Tottenham, Lo Celso has struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances. Last season, he made just four Premier League starts, managing two goals and two assists. Despite his evident talent, Lo Celso has found it challenging to maintain a regular spot in the starting lineup.

As Tottenham looks to refine their squad under the guidance of manager Ange Postecoglou, Lo Celso is among the players who has been told to find another club.

While Real Betis, where Lo Celso has previously played, are eager to bring him back to La Liga, West Ham and Aston Villa remain interested parties if the Spanish club’s deal falls through.
