Why Paratici Needs To Pass On Serie A ‘Goal Machine’

For a suggested retail price of €36 million, Dusan Vlahovic is an expensive punt in today’s post-COVID-19 transfer market. Why so?

Well, if one takes a brief look at his career CV, it becomes evident that last season was his breakthrough season.

Playing just 7 more Serie A games than the previous term, the 21-year-old scored over three times as many goals. Yet Dusan was subbed off 14 times, which surely asks more questions than it answers.

On Sunday, the Serbian hitman put 7 goals past Polisportiva C4 Foligno in a preseason friendly – on Fiorentina’s training pitch.

I’m not denying he’s a talent, just that Tottenham is not in a position to find themselves in the same spot they were with Vincent Janssen.

Another thought worth our consideration is how Vlahovic scores his goals. I’ve just been trawling through his recent league strikes, and I can only find one in the last year that came from outside the 18-yard box, and most are from inside the 6-yard box – which takes us back into the same territory as Carlos Vinícius, who did not make the grade at Tottenham.

Now is not the time for handing out more chances, I am afraid.
