Who Was To Blame For That Southampton Goal? | video

By The Boy -

Having reviewed this clip many, many times, my verdict is that this was just a goal produced by individual brilliance. It’s always galling to suffer one but the header was perfect and the movement in the box only served to inadvertently leave Hugo Lloris unsighted until it was all too late.

Spurs were incredibly unreliable defensively – but in this instance against a side 14th in the table – that didn’t cost us.

Last night’s result gave the odds for Sunday a nudge in Tottenham’s favour. Personally, I take a view that bookmakers move markets more frequently than punters do.

Just watching their goal again on MOTD. Aurier is deffo at fault. He’s behind Ings. Totally lost his man

Aurier clearly lets him go then looks round to blame someone a la Dier.

I seem to recall Aurier committing some typically daft act to concede the corner in the first place to, plus I love any opportunity to blame him for something, so he is definitely at fault (for something).

Our defence has been responsible for 99.9% of goals conceded this season. The fact is those tasked to defend just aren’t very good at it. Skool boy errors, lack of concentration and general poor play has done for us. Aurier yet again, wasn’t tracking as he should’ve been.

It worry’s me that Ledley is defensive coach and we defend like we do. Respectfully he’s not very good at getting the message across.

Like the Everton 2nd goal, Aurier gets my vote, needed to be at least in physical contact (not using his arms!) and goal side

Better hope Southgate is silly rumours. You thought Jose was boring? England created less from open play than Iran in the WC. No, No and thrice Nooooooo

Aurier once again lost concentration not in the right position with his player. Yes it was a good goal but Aurier should have made the challenge. TBH I would jettison the on-field French contingent next season as I believe they have a sh*te attitude in general and think they are better than what they are.

Great delivery by the best set-peace taker in the premier league and a great goal by a very classy striker. They have obviously worked on that in training a lot.

Southampton are actually a good team in most areas of the pitch. I can see them being above mid-table next year as their coach drills them well, they have some great players, and it’s obvious to their coach the areas they need to work on.

It could have been stopped, Man on the back post, tighter marking on their main striker? But not really an error

Lovely goal Ings is a good striker. If anyone was to stop that it would have to be Aurier who was tracking him or Lucas who was also right there. Neither reacted quick enough, giving ings a free header. Aurier or Lucas possibly could have anticipated better and at least challenge for the ball…. You don’t give free headers in the box.. Same as you don’t let balls bounce in the box which we have also been guilty of time and again.. Poor defending in my eyes..
