What The Hell Are These Stewards Playing At?

By The Boy -

Disturbing footage has emerged of THFC stewards behaving like the sort of people one would more normally expect to see ejected from a venue.

In this clip we see one steward (left) actually push his sleeve up before getting stuck in.

I’m no expert, but this guy looks like the sort of chap that ordinarily would apologise when he walked into a room. Clearly the situation and being next to a man mountain went to his head.

In this clip, we see some more intellectuals at work, on this occasion, as parents call out in fear as their children are located in the row in front.

One can already hear the excuses from the club.

These aren’t teething problems. This is poorly trained agency staffers hurled into impossible circumstances because nobody Levy didn’t think it through.

An email asking people to kindly take their seat simply will not do.

This is going to get worse before it gets better.

I was at the top of the South Stand and i think the stewards there, a mixture of kids and guys in their forties and fifties, quickly realised the futility of asking people in row 78 to sit down.
However people who have paid £75 for a ticket should be entitled to see the game, lots of older people near me couldn’t stand up and had to watch it on the screens.
No announcement on the P.A at half time, when a little bit of intervention from stewards would have had people sitting down, i think everyone was looking forward to a half time break, just for the rest. And everyone was expected to stand up for the “iconic” mosaic display?
I’m really impressed by the council and Levy’s attempts to preserve the heritage of the High Road though. Just a pity that it’s the heritage of the riots. The High Road is the worse I’ve ever seen it and the new ground an overblown monstrosity the just reinforces the levels of poverty all around it. Good result, considering Sissoko is now our star player, but the whole experience, left me feeling pretty depressed.

I do believe that these stewards deserve the prefix ‘Bar’.

Sorry – to re-iterate…I think they look like given the choice these guys would be in the SS, but just wanted to put the other side across.

I have never been a fan of clips like this. much like the ones against the police, they start the story in the middle, you have to ask what came first for the person with the camera to go “this could escalate and be worth filming”. I am not defending the actions of the stewards here because there are usually ways to handle a situation better than violence, however, had the altercation been handled verbally, you would have people moaning they missed 10mins of a match because the steward was trying to negotiate with a pilled up drunk man insisting he had paid and had a right to be a prick.
At games there will always be families nearby (or at least I hope so) and in life there will always be 3 sides to a story (your side, their side and the truth). In this video you see (as you say) a guy that would usually apologise just for his presence wind his neck up and pull his sleeves up before getting physical. So either the incident went VERY bad, or he is simply always looking for an excuse, what ever the reason, a 2second clip doesn’t do it justice and the pressure of having a time constraint to do it.
I used to work in a cinema (when a lot younger) and had to eject a few “youfs” for basically disturbing the film, I tried to be polite, I tried to be firm, in the end I said something like “your hard in here…lets see what its like if I take you outside…” the guy was stupid enough to fall for it, as he left I locked the door. do you know what I got post film…complaints that it took too long to eject them and people saying they missed a chunk of the film. Oh and some knob head waiting for me outside.
