I take a straightforward view that it has taken 6 months for Gareth Bale to be revealed as a colossal time-waster. At least ought to be grateful that none of the white noise brigade who wanted the 31-year-old’s loan extended after he managed to turn it on against tragically poor opposition a few weeks ago, were able to get their way.
Bale is back and make no mistake folks, it’s the very same Bale that fell out with Ancelotti and Zidane. In any other business, Daniel Levy’s decision to invest this class of money in such a player would be career-threatening.
As I commented online earlier, I found his comments about his motivation to return to Spurs in order to get fit for the Euros extraordinary. Is it not the convention when people nip off to spar breaks, that they pay the Spa, and not the other way around?
If I were Bale, I’d hope to get out of town before the fans are allowed back in, or the adulation he might have been expecting could take a turn for the worse.
The quotes were discussed online.
Bale on Wales: “I always think when things aren’t going too well at a club, it’s nice to mentally get away from the environment. It can be a benefit. We focus on these games, which are very important for us. We forget club life + concentrate on this.” [via @lauriewhitwell]

I think some are over thinking, he wasn’t going to get game time at Madrid, he needed a club and that was us. Players all want moves or loans to get in shape and form for major international tournaments, part of that was mooted for Dele and PSG or Rose to take a move last summer wasn’t it? Internationals are a big part for some players just ask H or Sonny it’s just ham fisted how this was done.
By default, my mate, the first through the door will be the hurrah brigade
Opposed to the ‘nasty’ riff-raff element
One comment so curiously left out is how fit Bale feels compared to previous seasons, which begs the question of why he has not been playing ….mmm !
Top four and a title is still on.. I would rather all Spurs lads stayed home and prepared.
Would be interesting to see the percentage in the ground of dissent.
Hopefully the international break will be a good chance for a few of them to pick themselves up and refocus.
Can you imagine the mood?
That may well be his intent, but it reads very badly off the back of what he’s brought to the party this season. And, to add the comment that he going back to Madrid in the summer just smacks of an agenda that’s not exactly in the best interests of the club he claims to live so much .
Remember that infamous sign Bale held up at Real Madrid, well it looks like that was his list of priorities.
Aww, come on, it’s clear what he means, it just doesn’t read well. He’s right – go, clear your heads, breathe a bit of different air, give the doom and gloom a chance to lift then come back focused.
At least I think thats what he means!
I said it in the summer and 40 times since.
NEVER. GO. BACK.
Luckily for Bale and Levy fans won’t be in stadiums for a long time.
He’s obviously not done enough to prove himself committed to the Spurs cause and Jose will not tolerate this. Joses shown big cahooners to Bale so average schmuks like winks have no chance.
Its a shame about Bale as i must admit id gotten a bit carried away and thought he’ll be a bit of a luxery that would be good for for us. But if he isnt even bothered about Spurs then he can eff orf
during a pandemic, he is happy taking oodles of cash without giving a monkeys about Spurs. He should be grateful the crowds are absent. Ruined his legacy. I think his PR team need to stop drinking and let him know how he is being perceived as well.
Klinsman came here to get fit for the Euro’s, plenty of players go out on loan for playing experience especially internationals who are worried they are being overlooked. If he is going back to Madrid again this is likely his last international tournament.
In fact part of the reason that Winks and Ali seem to be upset is they wanted to be loaned out to get playing time for the summer.
Things haven’t gone great with him but I am sure we knew what we were getting with him. He doesn’t seem dishonest at all and no doubt he said all these things to Tottenham before we brought him in. Either we heard what we wanted to hear, underestimated how fragile he has become, or just took a gamble, we can’t blame him for that. When fit an focused he has been good. When he was in his mid 20’s he was barely ever fit, I don’t know how we expected him to play that many games over the season.
It might be that Bale was more of a commercial decision than a footballing one. Yes, he costs a ton, but he brings in revenue and enhances the brand name (I upchucked just saying that) which is how chairman think.
He’ll be gone after the last matchday fixture.
Reminds me of the classic quote from the TV show Justified…
““If you run into an *sshole in the morning, you ran into an *sshole. If you run into *ssholes all day, you’re the *sshole.”
Bale keeps running into those *ssholes who ruin his day – what’s with that?
