What Are the Chances of Harry Kane Being Sold This Summer?

By The Boy -

As another transfer window comes along, Spurs fans are once again wondering whether star striker Harry Kane will be sold. With rumours already circulating and others sure to start soon, what are the chances of this happening?

His Recent Performances and Statistics

Harry’s recent goal against Crystal Palace in a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace made him the outright second-top goal scorer in the history of the English Premier League. With this header, he made it 209 league goals, taking him clear of Wayne Rooney but still trailing leader Alan Shearer’s total of 260 goals.  His 55 goals in 82 international matches means that he is England’s top scorer of all time, overtaking Rooney’s 53 goals earlier this year.

There had also been some debate about whether he had broken Jimmy Greaves’ record as Spurs’ all-time top scorer, although he’s now put that debate to rest by pulling clear of Greaves no matter what number is used for the legendary former striker. This season has seen Harry hit 26 goals in the league, with only the prolific Erling Haaland ahead of him.

The big question is where the player’s departure would leave the team. Look at the odds on a major online sportsbook, and you’ll see that Harry is regularly listed among the favourites to score in any game or tournament, thanks to his amazing record. As of now, Tottenham Hotspur is chosen as a favourite at -120 to win against Brentford. However, this might change if he leaves then the odds of Spurs winning the EPL or going far in Europe are going to be a lot longer, unless they use his transfer fee to improve the team, of course.

Does He Want to Leave?

We need to go back to the build-up to the 2021-22 season to recall how the player tried to push through a move to Manchester City. He claimed that chairman Daniel Levy had given his word that he could leave during that summer and missed the first couple of games of the season as he held out for a move that never came through in the end.

Since then, Harry has been committed to the cause, but the big question is whether he plans to run down his contract so that he could leave on a free transfer in 2024. The player is keen to win major trophies, and it’s now a question of whether it makes sense for everyone involved to let him leave this summer. If he doesn’t sign a contract extension, it seems likely that Tottenham will look to cash in this summer and use the transfer fee to sign a big-name replacement.

The Bayern Munich Link

One of the latest stories to link Harry with a move away from north London suggests that Bayern Munich could be his next destination. It’s reported that his style matches what the German giants are looking for and that they think he could be the replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona in 2022.

According to this rumour, Spurs will ask for around €90 million for Kane, but the transfer fee increases to €110 million if another EPL club wants to sign him. However, other sources have reported that there’s no way he’ll be sold to another English team. If the Bayern story has any truth in it then Harry might be interested in the chance to take the Germans to a seventh Champions League / European Cup, with their last success in the continent’s premier competition coming in 2020.

Where Else Could He Go?

If the Bayern Munich transfer doesn’t work out, some other clubs will be interested in signing a world-class striker like Harry Kane. While the strongest interest in the past came from Manchester City, it seems unlikely that they would sign him now that they have Haaland performing at such a high level. This perhaps makes their city rivals United the English team we can expect to see most strongly linked with Kane.

Chelsea is arguably the only other EPL team who might be in the hunt for the striker, as they look to put a miserable season behind them. If as expected Mauricio Pochettino takes over at Stamford Bridge, then he might be tempted to turn to a striker he knows well, especially as it’s rumoured that the new Chelsea manager is going to have a huge rebuilding job this summer with as many as 14 players leaving.

Among the foreign clubs linked with the player in the past, big hitters like PSG and Real Madrid could afford to sign Harry. It’s been said in the past that he would prefer to stay in England, but with Spurs not keen for him to play in the EPL for anyone this could be the key stumbling block that defines what eventually happens.

It seems certain to be another long summer of Harry Kane speculation and don’t be surprised if the narrative changes on more than one occasion all the interested parties try to get the best deal for themselves. Right now, it seems that Harry Kane will probably leave Spurs before, but we’ve thought that before and he ended up staying so this story still has a long way to run.
