‘We’re expecting that deal to happen’ coach of £15M+ star hints at transfer to Spurs eventually happening

Tottenham Hotspur has upgraded its left wing-back position following the addition of Ivan Perišić this summer transfer window. Their attention will need to turn to the right side, where they have yet to add a new player but are linked to several targets, including Djed Spence.

Spence has drawn attention from Premier League clubs following his hand in helping Nottingham Forest earn promotion into the Premier League. The 21-year-old was on loan to The Reds from Middlesbrough.

Boro’ gaffer Chris Wilder to The Sun he expects the move to Tottenham to happen. Talks have been underway for some weeks, which whilst frustrating, is also a good sign.

While Tottenham is reportedly discussing a deal for the defender, Sol Bamba feels a move to Spurs would be the best option for Spence to play under manager Antonio Conte during an interview with talkSPORT

“[Spence] needed a new start. He went to Forest and done so well. The potential is there. It’s unbelievable. Fantastic player. I think, under Conte, in my opinion, I think he will learn a lot. And I think young players need discipline, and I’m sure Conte will give that to him,” Bamba said.

“Going forward is fantastic. But I think the fans, he can improve. And for me, Tottenham would be the best move for him. But you have to give credit to himself. He went on loan and done very well. So he deserves this move.”

The England international made 46 appearances for Nottingham Forest, scoring three goals and recording five assists during the 2021-22 season. When it comes to a transfer fee, Transfermarkt puts Spence’s value at £7 million, so it will be interesting to see if the two sides can agree on a price.
