The January transfer window will open in a matter of hours. After Tottenham Hotspur decided to sack Nuno Espírito Santo and hire Antonio Conte, it came with a financial commitment to improving the squad to his standards.
Conte’s tactics have pushed the north London club into a fight for a UEFA Champions League spot. However, ESPN relayed the remarks by the Italian tactician, who wants Tottenham to make some signings.
“After only two weeks, I said we need to improve the quality of the squad,” Conte said.
“For sure, we need to improve the quality of the squad. I was sure after seven days, ten days, two weeks about this. And then I make the evaluation who are the players I can count on and the players I can’t count [on].
The Spur manager says that the squad needs fixing despite their place in the standings if they seriously want to compete for a league and European title.
“This squad needs to improve the quality, but it is important before to think something [about] a different place in UEFA [Champions League, Europa League] or Conference League. This league, the level is very high, and now you are in the middle.
ESPN reports that Conte’s priorities are believed to include signing a center-forward, a center-back, and a right-back. As for possible departures, Dele Alli and Matt Doherty are just two of several players who will be allowed to depart if suitable offers arrive.
The 52-year-old manager stated that he would hold a meeting with those in charge to discuss a course of action to navigate the January window.
“You have to think to build something important; for this reason, I ask for patience and time. In this moment, the gap is very large, and we need to work a lot and also to try to build and improve the quality of the squad,” Conte squad.
“For sure, now the situation is more clear than before. I am waiting to have a meeting with the club and then also to give my opinion about the squad and what I think about our situation.”
Failing that it’s rescheduled for April 1st.
Haha if that’s true there will be one open seat at the table because Conte will be long gone.
I heard that Levy has the meeting pencilled in the diary for Tuesday 1st Feb.
