The January transfer window closes in less than two weeks, and Tottenham Hotspur has yet to make a move to improve their squad.
The north London club fights for a top-four spot, and manager Antonio Conte wants improvements to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
During his press conference with the media, the Italian tactician shared some frustration about the lack of moves thus far in the January transfer window.
“I know that the transfer window in January is always very difficult, and it is more simple when you start the season to buy important players,” Conte said, per The Athletic. “In January, it is not easy, but at the same time, we know very well that if there is the opportunity and also if it’s not the best opportunity, but we need to do something.”
“Also, if I repeat that this could not be the best opportunity, but I think that we are in a situation where we have to try to improve the squad because the squad is not so big.”
Over the past few weeks, Tottenham has been linked to various players, but no moves have occurred. With only days left, Spurs need to get the ball rolling on improving their squad, especially with rumors of Conte leaving if they don’t hold their end of the bargain.
Conte isn’t afraid to depart a club that doesn’t commit to him financially, as, over the summer, he left Inter Milan despite winning the Serie A after the club wanted to cut player wages.
