Jose Mourinho has played down the need for Tottenham to spend big this summer in order to catch up with the Premier League’s leading clubs.
Spurs could considerably finish 50 points adrift of the title pace and our hopes of strengthening the squad appear to be restricted by a combination of stadium debts, Covid-19 and a lack of Champions League football.
But Mourinho has insisted “we don’t need huge investment” to improve the squad and is comfortable with Daniel Levy’s plans for us in the market.
This is what he told his press conference this afternoon:
via ytCropperHe’ll be happy until he’s told he can’t have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg because Southampton want £20m and Levy has offered Spurs Shop gift vouchers.

I admire your optimism brother, but we will need a bigger squad to cope with ropey league, and thats if we make that.
Our first team is mid table. The proof is in the pudding.
Our second string is mid table🌚
We’ll be strong for next season mate. We’re certainly strong enough for the rest of this one. 🌚.
Our first eleven is pretty strong… But our squad is what lets us down. We have enough centre backs and wingers who can do a job.. But injuries anywhere else and we can’t replace with quality. All the top winning clubs have strength in depth, options, replacements… As soon as we get injuries we are found out.. Liverpool and citys second string could hold their own in the prem… Our second string players would be relegated immediately.
The squad ain’t no where near as bad as some are trying to make out. Just need a few in and we’ll get them
I imagine we’ll have a much more settled and solid defence next season. A RB and a holding mid and a striker would also go a long way towards improving our squad. 3 players could make a massive difference. In an ideal world we’d add more but if it were to be just these 3 positions, I wouldn’t be too disappointed. The important thing is to bring in players of the right quality.
With the attacking players we already have, it should be a squad capable of top 4.
COYS later. Up& at’m boys. YIDZ.
I think he is just quoting the party line. We can coast for 2-3 seasons (5th-8th) and then start to inject the extra stadium revenue in preparation for our charge at the title in 2050/51.
Don’t “need” huge investment (is he watching the same games as me?) Can’t afford due to covid and lack of champions League, that if funny because we didn’t seem to be allowed to invest while in the tournament either. Spurs transfer policy is a disgrace and out right lie. I bet we declare profits again.
