Watch whimpering Gollini: 2 shots at him and they both went in

By The Boy -

There appears to be a weird strain of belief despite all evidence to the contrary amongst many Spurs fans, and perhaps never more so than with Gollini. This is a goalkeeper that the Premier League has already tried once and sent back.

10 games the Italian has played for us now, and it’s now 11 goals that he’s conceded. I’m still confused as to why we moved on Paulo Gazzaniga, who was snapped up by Fulham.

Perhaps Gollini is actually a fabulous goalkeeper and the problem is the circus act of our back four?

Dopey Davies gave the ball away at the start of the move for the second goal .Another player who should have been moved on years ago.

Sanchez was playing as a left sided centrehalf ? He can only use his left foot for standing on. Up until last nights game he had been much better this season playing on the right side . Don’t know why him and Dier were swapped or didn’t swap when Dier came on. I actually think Conte ballsed up last night with his team formation. Ultimately the players though were absolutely disgraceful in their attitude, the tempo and intensity of their non performance was embarrassing, every single one of them bar skipp. Bang average the lot of them, and imo, Kane is holding back deliberately.

No hopefully the club will start spending its money wisely. According to Transfermarkt’s figures we have spent close to 600m on transfers since 2015/15 season. The problem is that almost all of that has been spent on rubbish players who haven’t improved the first team.

You think that looking at the TV. I played a few games against a 50 year old former Israeli professional player when I was 18. No-one could beat him he won every tackle. Only when you play against this level of player do you realise how good they are (and this guy was an average Israeli defender who never played for the national team).

But Sanchez is absolutely rubbish. Nowhere near the level required of a PL defender.

Spot on our recruitment since Mitchell left has been atrocious, Poch is largely responsible for that (and its a weakness that’s been on show throughout his career).

I agree with you. however a significant part of our decline is rooted in the atrocious players who Poch bought in to replace the quality that he inherited and that was signed when Paul Mitchell was in charge of transfers. The last signing we made was has been an unqualified success was Son in 2015. Lucas is the next best signing and he has been underwhelming at best. The rest of them have been awful. Poch got the best out of players given to him. As soon as we started signing the players he wanted we ended up with utter garbage like Aurier. Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sanchez, Sessengnon, etc.

Pretty much in agreement with what you say here, Eastie, but I would say the rot may have been set in motion with the departure of Mitchell.

That winning goal is such a pathetic looking goal somehow, the way it went in off our GK. Seems to sum us up!

All those brilliant young players, bring them in I say and let the chairman and the world see how good they are.

We’re in trouble, the rot is deeper than we thought but Conte has diagnosed that.

Last night he said everything needs to change at Tottenham. Let that sink in.

Everything.

If that doesn’t send a shiver down the chairman’s spine nothing will.

Watching Conte’s face at the press conference one thing is clear the clock is ticking and for Spurs and ENIC it’s closer to midnight than anyone ever thought.

Does seem odd, but a player of his supposed ability shouldn’t be inept against an opponent of the equivalent of Burton Albion. Either right footed, left footed or played wherever…

Yet, we had a left footed centre half on the pitch at the start of the game, who was played in the centre/right, while Sanchez played on the left. That is not to excuse Sanchez’s ineptitude; just to point out that it was an odd choice.

You do have a point, Sanchez is very right sided, however making the same mistake twice in the same game shows a complete lack of focus for a professional.

Yet one more of of the mysteries of ‘Levy Land’ I’m afraid…

I’m one of the ones that very much valued Poch’s abilities as our coach, mainly because of the overachievement he brought to a team with a comparatively tiny spend compared with our rivals. To me, it has been no surprise that the football side has gradually descended into chaos since he and his staff left, I half expected it.

The reason why I expected it is because we had seen players overachieve under him and lose their way before when no longer under his coaching methods. I remember clearly how Lambert and Lalana’s form after leaving Saints to join Liverpool very quickly plummet over the following year.

Mauricio might not be the best ‘in -game’ tactician in the world, he might not have managed big clubs before he came to us, and consequently has a lack of silverware on his CV. However, developing players and getting an extra percentage out of them as individuals and collectively is this thing. So when he left, and after he wasn’t backed to continue that work, a decline in performance levels, fitness levels, attitude was inevitable, when the squad was assembled so cheaply in the first place.

Think back to the team a few years ago, young, hungry and eager to ride the Poch train to supposed glory. The players that remain from that time have dropped (at the very least) 25% in their performance levels since he left. Others that arrived just before he left like Tangy, LoCelso and Sessingnon never got to work under him, the quality of a signing like Steve B is questionable, but you can bet you’d have probably seen more out of him had Mauricio been coaching.

It’s my theory that the squad has always lacked a significant level of quality, mentality and leadership but Poch compensated via his methods, and the “philosophy” that he was mocked (in some quarters) for referring to at the time. Now the realities of the constant low spending, poor scouting and the quality of the clubs’ incoming transfers has been exposed, laid bare.

I’m pleased though that we now have someone serious in the building who demands training levels back up to where they need to be and who also shoots straight from the hip with brutal honesty in his assessment of the situation…

I have been critical of him even when he turned in a decent performance against Leeds.
However last night I give him a free pass as he was caught out covering for the absent dimwit Sessegnon.
On this point I also hate Dier.
Look at his positioning for the Leeds goal and Bayern Munich’s 2nd (oops I meant Mura).
Marking air hence he didnt make a tangible mistake hence easy ride and a chance to raise his arms at others who at least were on players.
Those 2 must be the most useless pair in the PL.

Agreed. Sanchez did the same mistake twice. Once is bad enough for a pro but twice…. I think most of us would not have a problem taking on Sanchez in a one on one situation.. He is really that bad now.

Sanchez has never been able to play on the left of a defensive unit… in the absence of Davies, Dier is the only person who can play there… a left sided CB should be a priority signing in January

To be fair to Gollini, on this occasion, there was nothing he could have done about either goal. Nevertheless there is nothing about him which suggests either solidity, brilliance, or in any way that he is a viable replacement for Hugo. To your point H, he doesn’t seem in any way superior to Gazzaniga, which leaves one at a loss as to why he was signed and the Argentinian let go.

Potential seminal moment. With the financial statement and an estimate of debt repayments there is the opportunity for the club to spend and preform the relevant right offs on players. Just il presidente is in the way.

Sanchez was pathetic, but I suspect Daniel will want to recoup the 35m we paid for him several years ago, so he’s going nowhere.

So pleased that Antonio spelt out what the realities are after the game, gotta love that. Daniel was squirming all over his cornflakes this morning I suspect! 😂

Too many substandard players signed possibly on scraps of evidence that they might become world beaters. Look at our net spend and wage bill, look at the fact Levy only goes in for players he has a free hit at (ie players that other big clubs have passed on), and you begin to understand why this keeps happening.

Gollini was 1st choice for Atalanta last season with Romero so he’s probably not total garbage. However, he’s clearly not a good enough keeper to cone in and perform as a number 2 in one off games, might need a run of games, whatever. Anyway he’s not good enough in my opinion, just as bad as Hart was.

Sanchez was good in his first season or so under Poch, like Dele and Dier he’s another one who’s lost their way.

Last night’s result is a blessing in disguise. Yes I nearly threw the remote at the TV and gave up after 30 minutes and turned over to watch NFL but this could be the best thing to happen because:

a. There is no longer the excuse that it was down to Mourinho being left behind by football or Nuno being out of his depth (whilst both true)

b. I guarantee you that Conte is the kind of man who will pack up and leave if nothing is changed in January.

c. January is around the corner, see b.

d. Levy has no more excuses if a world class manager cant turn this club around. Hopefully the ENIC and Levy out brigade will get bigger and bigger

He had absolutely no chance with either goal. Over past two seasons we keep conceding ‘worldies’ from edge/outside of box. That is the defence allowing the shooter to set himself, not the keeper.
