Forget the Welsh Mafia, it’s the Spanish Connection that needs to be appreciated. As this clip shows, there is something very interesting developing between Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale. The number of times against Crystal Palace were opened up by these diagonal balls… simply sublime. But how long will Bale be able to maintain these high standards, and how far is the 31-year-old ever away from a lengthy injury?

Reguilon is an inspired addition to the squad. He shows precisely the difference a modern attacking full/wing back can make to a side – just compare the team with Davies at LB to a side featuring Reguilon. Instead of a weak spot where opposing teams can double up on or simply have a player run past Ben, we have a player who forces their RB back, can go outside and inside, stretching play for these beautiful passes, AND can provide brilliant crosses.
One can only hope RM don’t sign him up this summer – but he seems happy here. Hopefully that will make him stay a bit longer.
