Video Analysis: Just how good was Emerson Royal against Crystal Palace?

Royal had been failing to impress me, however, against Crystal Palace we saw distinct cause for optimism.

Total successful actions were improved, up from 64.9% to 66%, which may sound a trifling amount, but small steps are just as welcome as giant leaps, in fact, they may indicate greater stability.

The Brazilian’s 88% passing accuracy was not only pleasing, but it also featured 3 key passes. we saw 3 accurate crosses, and 5 interceptions.

44% success rate in duels won wasn’t brilliant, but this is certainly a by-product of his wing-back activities.

Emerson’s dribbling skills didn’t set the world alight, either, with just one successful attempt. Which for a wing-back might be a cause for concern.

For me, Royal has a long way to go, and as Antonio said in his post-match comments (above), there’s plenty of room for development. At least we have a coach in situ now, who might be able to exploit this.

There is a second philosophy, that you only spend when you’ve reach maximum capacity which I think is levys camp

The issue is wether Dr Strangelove can keep his fingers out …he hangs onto the Daniel ‘I’m in Charge’ Levy moniker so bloody hard his testes retract into his body…set the budget and relax Daniel ..let things drop ..like Steve Hitchenaride..

I am glad Conte has the full backs playing in attacking positions like other EPL full backs, even Jose wound me up playing so defensively. Under Nuno we were toothless going forward because we were always outnumbered.

However, Emerson didn’t have to do much once Zaha was shown red, this was great for us as Emerson cannot defend well. He needs to improve a lot for me to be convinced. A step in the right direction but he won’t get many easy games like the one v Palace.

See how they get on under Conte, Poch got Walker and Rose to a great level. A coach like this gives players confidence.

I just don’t see any raw ingredients. Bale had pace and ability, that was clear when he was first turning out at left back under Redknapp. Hoping I’m wrong but it’s such a crucial position in Conte’s set-up that we can’t afford mediocrity or worse to get back to the top 4 and beyond.

Bale didn’t exactly set the world on fire when he arrived and look what happened with him

Walker was far better than Royal. Still is.

I guess he did okay against Pool, but need to see more evidence of his crossing ability for sure. If we had top level wing backs we’d really be flying.

Looking forward to tomorrow. If Conte can get the B squad playing well then he really is amazing.

So what is so wrong I exploits the advantage. He could have laid an egg. I hope some of the GMs here start adding players to their posts they would like to see. I never heard of Royal before he signed and playing up and down the wing and contributing in the 1st. I would cut him some slack. That cross for Lucas header maybe one more than the great Kyle Walker had.

I agree, needs to show up in a battle against some quality to convince everyone. Pleasing but Palace offered very little…

As soon as Zaha was sent off, Emerson had a free reign, so I wouldn’t look into that performance too much, for me this season Emerson has just been another Aurier, not that great at all.

As an example, Inter went and got Eriksen during the Jan window. They didn’t win the title, but finished in the CL places and then won the league the following year. Trouble is, Daniel isn’t decisive enough in the transfer market to ever make this type of upgrade. Can only hope Fab and Conte have been allowed to do their job instead of the midget dictator.

He just doesn’t look much of a player to me but you are right he deserves time. At least he’s better than Doherty, another great Levy signing.

Somebody should shake Levy and explain to him that riches beyond his wildest dreams once again await him if we finish in the top 4. Consequently investment in January is vital to achieve that. As an alleged businessman he should know that you have to speculate somewhat to accumulate. Spending next summer won’t assist with getting top 4 this season. Grow some balls Daniel.

How much of Emerson’s success yesterday was down to the sending off though I wonder?

Never a fan of giving a hard time to players in their first season in the PL. The problem as we know, is Levy picks tend to fail most of the time.

He is an 8million pound player that Conte has to turn into a 23 mill one.
Just hoping we get a few players in, in Jan to maintain the momentum but we know what Levy has been traditionally like in stealing defeat from the jaws of potential victory. Cashflow is coming back into the club and we trimmed wages in the summer so buying on the HP now shouldnt be a constraint.
