“Very good to do this” – Antonio Conte happy to see Hugo Lloris extend contract

Tottenham Hotspur has extended the contract of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, which will keep the France international until 2024 in north London.

The 35-year-old’s contract was set to expire in June, but it seems the Premier League club couldn’t let him depart this summer. Lloris did have interest from French clubs, so these rumors might have scared Tottenham enough not to wait and lock their goalkeeper up.

Manager Antonio Conte spoke about the extension during his press conference with the media. The Italian tactician had glowing remarks regarding Lloris’ new deal since it appears as though Conte views him as his goalkeeper for his project.

“It is important our captain renews his contract, not only for one year, but two years,” Conte said. “It means the club and the whole environment trust Hugo, and he is a point of reference for the whole team, me and the club.

“And it was right to sign a new contract for two years, and he is one of the most important goalkeepers in the world, he has won a lot with his national team. He is captain of Tottenham, so it was right to renew his contract, and the club was very good to do this.”

Last summer, Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici brought in Pierluigi Gollini on loan to be the possible replacement for Lloris. Still, six months into his stint with Tottenham, the Italian has barely played.

With Lloris now signed for two more seasons, it seems as though Gollini’s tenure with Tottenham will end in June when his loan deal expires and he returns to Atalanta.

I detect a pulse after all. He was better than Royal that’s for sure.

Who did he used to play for?How come we never snapped him up?I said earlier he just needed a manger who believed in him and would give him time.Certainly better than anything we have at RB/RWB.

Although I hate to admit it,finally Doherty showed some gumption when he came on against Leicester. Will it last?

Glad to see something go the way Antonio wanted it to. Now let’s sign him some players, even though it’s VERY tough in January. (Just don’t tell Villa, who already have Digne, Coutinho, and Robin Olsen, and have started discussions to sign Bentancur from Juventus.)

Good to see Hugo is staying. Hope he keeps fit if we don’t get a decent backup.
Off topic, but I have just read that efforts are being re-started to criminalise the chanting of what is quaintly called the ‘Y’ word. Led by Bernstein, ex Arsenal, the suggestion is that it is racist in the same way as the ‘N’ word. Last time I looked, Yiddish was an acceptable description of what might be described as a form of pidgin Hebrew. Is Yiddish now to be proscribed?
I have always felt that chanting of “Yid Army” is no different to other clubs supporters chanting “Red and White Army” etc. There is no intent to insult or abuse Jewish players or supporters, rather it is a statement of solidarity with a particular minority, one that has a significant part in Spurs’ history.

Exactly. Just a few lottery tickets to cash in when the real football clubs come knocking. The search for another Bale continues unabated…..

100% agree. These endless cheapo punts that fail to improve the team is a complete waste of time and money. Levy would rather use the transfer ‘budget’ on cheap speculative buys in the hope that a couple double or treble in value one day. He’s not interested in improving the team in the present, which is why the fans think he’s a total prick…

‘The Don’ is yet another paid up stooge, put in place in some lame attempt to deflect attention away from Levy. He’ll be gone in six months…

Same old, same old. Buying cheap punts that fail and add up to the amount a few decent players would have cost. Levy out.

Yes more than slightly concerning. I think the Don must be channeling Levy.

IF Gollini had shown what Paratici expected from him we would be looking at the end of Lloris’s reign come summer, but he has not stepped up and taken his chances.
I’m already questioning Paratici’s choices with Gollini, Gil and Royal not exactly showing enough qualities.
