According to Fabrizio Romano, for The Guardian, Spurs centre-back Jan Vertonghen is merely the latest Tottenham player whose sights are set beyond the lavish walls of Daniel Levy’s world-class facilities.
Vertonghen was part of the best back four in the division, once upon a time, but then things were different in 2016. Tottenham only conceded 35 Premier goals that season. Kyle Walker, Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld were widely respected as tight unit.
Kyle Walker bailed to Manchester City, and his teammate and close friend Danny Rose was left pining for his own move, which he was kind enough to share with The Sun newspaper. Since then, a steady stream of Spurs’ first team regulars have been refusing to sign extensions to their current deals. Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderwiereld are also free agents in the summer of 2020.
One can only presume that Inter are serious in their intent. Romano believes the Italians will return for the Belgian at the season’s end.
The recurring question is, “How come the allure of the brave new world at Spurs, has failed to engage with so many key players?”
The answer is unlikely to be forthcoming anytime soon.
