Tottenham’s alternative option to Romero revealed

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that signing Cristian Romero remains Tottenham’s priority in this transfer window.

However, the Lilywhites do have a Plan B in the event Romero is not signed.

Spurs have been busy in this window with Fabio Paratici eager to add new quality players to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad before the window closes.

The Lilywhites failed to make the top six in the Premier League last season and they will be keen to have a better campaign in 2021/2022.

The defence was one part of the team that failed to deliver acceptable performances and Spurs are keen to address that in this window.

Romero has seen his stock rise since he moved from Juventus to Atalanta and he helped the Argentinian national team win Copa America.

Romano says Tottenham is keen to sign him, but Spurs and Atalanta haven’t found an agreement over a potential €55m move.

If they cannot sign him, Romano says they will turn to Nikola Milenkovic, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kurt Zouma all combined for the same fee.

The transfer insider tweeted: “Tottenham still in negotiation for Cristian Romero but no agreement yet on €55m fee – he’s the priority. 100%. White circle #THFC

“Plan B: open talks to sign 3 different defenders with same amount. Tomiyasu [€18m], Milenkovic [€15m] and Zouma [€25m].

“Caleta-Car, NOT even an option.”
